We have lived in our two story house for almost 30 years. Our two children were raised here and brought their boy friends and girl friends to this house. Their weddings were planned from here and their children were born and brought here at birthdays, Christmas and just about every holiday conceivable.
But it comes a time in most every couple's life that you are not able to live in what was once your dream home. In my case I have had to have two knee replacements, back problems and Fibromyalgia. My husband has Parkinson's Disease, and has had to have back surgery that he is recovering from right now. We cannot go up and down stairs. We cannot do yard work or plow the snow. We need help.
We need to move and to move as soon as possible. But what a chore. Looking at all the townhouses that are on the Internet trying to find some that are acceptable to our needs.
We are in a good position now. We can buy a place right out with no contingencies, since we own our present house. So we can put a down payment on the town house. Age does have its advantages.
We have decided what type floor plan we wanted, one level with the most important feature, a main level laundry room. We needs lots of storage. Our bedrooms must have walk-in closets and full bathrooms with jacuzzi style tubs. We also need a fireplace, sun room, dining room and full kitchen with eat-in area. These are a must. We can not deviate from these features.
Another must is that our Yellow Lab Daisy Mae must be allowed to live there. She is family and we would never go anywhere without her.
Our plan is to move out of our house that we live in now and to move into the new house as soon as possible. We then can hire people to fix-up the old place and to get it ready for the market. It will be much easier to work without all of our furniture in the house. This way we will be able to take what we want and when we want without being in a hurry. I have no aspersions that we are going to get top dollar for our home this way, but I only want to sell it for what we are buying the new one for or for less. We can handle it.
