Poetry: Bottom of the barrel

by Michael. B

Created on: April 28, 2008

I search for simplicity
disappointed by facts.
I compensate for deceit
seeking answers -
to love?
In eyes...
unwilling to share.
Feeling selfish again
I'll lie down
in mock comfort.
Not wanting light
-anything but.
I'll shy away to darkness
and claw at -
the bottomless barrel.
It's like I just woke up
after long silences (numb)
to the melancholy of love.
You did that to me
I allowed you
one gloomy glance
and the view changed.
I can only imagine
what else you could do.
If allowing for
such freedoms (stuck)
I'll saunter the kitchen
low through heart
bare feet freezing
feeling crazy again
only, this time it's welcome.
I'm humbled by my heart
not entirely dead after all.
And my thoughts again
- alive and terrified
my aching soul
defrosted
now trembles
with the smile
of inspiring joy.
