Thrift stores are wonderful places! Not only can you pick up a great item for a fraction of the price you'd have to pay for it in a department store or similar, but you have the chance of discovering a real treasure. One man's junk is another man's (or woman's) treasure - and thrift stores are the places at which to find it.
The best aspect of shopping for clothes at a thrift store is that you can pick up a one-off item that you won't catch anyone else wearing. Some people shop at thrift stores not necessarily to save money, but to buy what they consider "original" items, items that aren't sold in the high street and aren't going to be worn by every other person they see when they're out and about.
And if you're into dress-making then a thrift store can be an oasis of treasures for your craft. Fabrics, buttons, embellishments - you can find everything you need to individualize an item and put your unique stamp on it.
A thrift store is also a great place to pick up those essential items you may need when setting up home. Say you've just spent as much as you can afford on a mortgage and solicitor's costs to enable you to own your own home, and it's left you with not much else. You can still kit out your new home with items from a thrift store - everything from bookcases to pots and pans and cutlery. And again, shopping at a thrift store means that you could grab yourself a bargain that's a real conversation point when you have your house-warming party!
Anyone who's in the slightest bit creative will love shopping at a thrift store. You can pick up a basic piece of furniture and turn it into a masterpiece with a little creativity. It also means that the interior of you home won't look the same as your neighbor's, or resemble the pages of the latest Ikea catalogue!
Always consider a thrift store when shopping for children's clothing. Kids grow out of their clothes so quickly that it makes no sense at all to spend a considerable amount of money on outfits they may only wear for a couple of months.
Don't look at a thrift store as just a place where you can buy a true bargain; look at it as a treasure trove of undiscovered gems - a place that really does make shopping a joy!
