They're neatly stacked upon a shelf
Each one looks just the same
The covers will not give a clue
Except the owners name
The notebooks that my father filled
One a year for 30 years
Tell of a journey down a road
That started out with only fears
Until the day he met her
And she opened up his heart
She made him feel respected
They vowed to never be apart
Slowly he began to love
And treasured her more than his life
He finally got the courage
To ask her to be his wife
Joyfully they lived a life
Of fairy tales and castles
But then the road went all up hill
With life's worries and its hassles
Quickly though she promised him
Hang in there babe, we'll make it
And if you really can't believe
For awhile just try to fake it
For through the ups and downs of life
It's never ever easy
To see things through when times get rough
Success isn't for the lazy
So with her love she coached him back
Into a happy life
Their goal; becoming old and gray
Through both the joy and strife
When life presented his last test
Of living life without her
He gathered all the dusty books
And sat reading them for hours
His faced now smeared with darkness
From dust and tears combined
His heart, though broke
Was full of love
For his sweet angel divine
In every word he'd written
A story was revealed
Of compassion everlasting
His heart was being healed
He felt her sweet hand touch him
In her gentle loving way
He placed the books back on the shelf
And knew she'd be with him all the way

My life is but a notebook, written in my soul
Looking deep inside, to make myself whole
The feelings buried deep
by Scott Scherr
What They Hold Inside
Wandering
Hear ts and minds
Attempting to capture
The elusive moments
The words all
Held inside
Every page
In a notebook I keep inside
very safe and secure with heart strings tied
hidden deep within my soul
I write
Word upon word, sentence upon sentence
Some a little absurd and others about repentance
Some many of them just sitting there
