Assessing Barack Obama's chances for the 2008 Democratic primaries

Barack Obama has already made a name in US political history as the first African American to have a realistic chance at becoming President of the United States. If we wish to honestly assess his chances in the 2008 Democratic primaries the issue of race may unfortunately be used against him. At the Democratic Party convention race may be used as the trump card to scuttle his bid for the Democratic Party ticket. The argument may be that Hillary Clinton would stand a better chance against John MacCain simply because she would be more acceptable as President to the White establishment in America. This racist, parochial and untenable view may sway the super delegates at the Convention floor to dump Obama and endorse Clinton. The super delegates would ultimately decide who would be the Democratic nominee. It would eventually go down to the wire.

Barack Obama is eminently qualified to become President of the United States but would the present white establishment system endorse a black man to be President of United States, the greatest democracy in the world. It is only time that would provide the answer to what the Rev Martin Luther King paid dearly with his life 40 years ago. Americans would be making a statement to the whole world that race is not an issue in US politics at the Democratic primaries. The world would be watching and America is in spotlight. The issue whether any American Citizen by birth regardless of race or gender can aspire to highest office of President of the United States of American would be answered at the Democratic convention.

The Leader of the civil rights movement of the 60's Rev Martin Luther King's dream would be answered at the Democratic Convention:"I have a dream that one day all people blacks, whites, and all other races would live together as brothers and sisters and their children walk hand in hand to school". Has the race been completely removed from US Politics? It is the realization of that dream that would answered at the Democratic Convention. Has American reached that promised land? The world waits with bated breath.

If race is truly not a factor in the Democratic Convention of the Party to endorse a candidate. I see Barak Obama winning the Party's nomination to contest at the General Elections against John MacCain being the stronger of the two candidates.
