The use of "Oh My God" (OMG) and how God feels

"OH MY GOD!" Haven't we had enough of this popular expression? Or, how about "OMG!"? As if this phrase isn't used enough in it's current form, now we're abbreviating it as well. This exclamation or abbreviation is seen and heard everywhere. On television, this phrase is heard in cartoons, youth shows, game shows, sitcoms, movies and even commercials. This phrase is all over the radio and in all types of advertising. The Internet is inundated with this phrase, whether you are reading articles or watching some type of video. This phrase is the punch line to "jokes" and "humorous" stories. This expression is now a "given" in the English language.

I would think that this saying would have expired a long time ago. Popular words and sayings usually come and go. They are phases in our society. However, this one seems to be used more and more and it appears to be hanging around for the duration. I'm wondering why?

You may be comfortable with this expression, as most people are. However, how does God feel about this? God clearly states in His word that His name shall not be taken in vain. His ears must be burning continually at the constant misuse of His name. Are we thinking of Him as we say this? Are we honoring Him with our words and the use of His name?

In the past, the Levite Priests were afraid to mention God's name in the reading of religious text. They were worshiping, praising and offering sacrifices to Him and yet were still afraid to mention His awesome name. They believed that He was an awesome God and worthy of their utmost respect.

Now we utter His name flippantly in any and every circumstance. We can yell it, say it in a quirky voice, whisper it; whatever has the most effect on what we are trying to say at the time. Where has our respect for our Creator gone? Our God is an awesome God. He loves us with all of His heart. Why can't we respect Him and honor Him with our use of words?

One day we will all stand before Him. This day is going to be a very wonderful day for some and a very terrible day for others. We need to use the time that we have on this earth to do His will. Let us remember to use His name reverently, in praise and adoration of Him.
