I've memorized your face
From a torn photograph
Faded with time.
And as I hear the enemy
Approach the trench
I am in; so far away from home,
In an unknown nation
Fighting in mud for an unknown cause.
I watch my friends succumb to
Bullet, shrapnel and pneumonia,
Yet, I know when my turn comes;
Next to my slowing heart,
Will your wonderful likeness be.
And somehow; amidst the noise of
Shelling, the smell of death and
Constant screams of pain,
I am secure in knowing that with
God's miracle; should I return home
To you, I shall never leave your
Side again for any reason; my love...
Never leave...my love.

cascading down like endless rain.
It fills the thirsty waiting pool,
and heals my aching
