The Video Game
A New Hope
Far outside the reaches of this world we so treasure, far beyond the realms of time and space, a piece of this world will be held for sixteen years, and not but once, but twice will he be killed. He will then crush the shadow and return to his dwelling in another form, and peace will be restored. Look not to peace to solve, but to the strength of that so heralded race, and all will be healed.
Part One
Chapter One
One Among Many
Jaggarth was ready. He had done this a million times before, with a look at the metallic wreckage behind him, he jumped the first pit. Not bad, for a Tark. But he was an Erat; he was better than this. He looked around. There was a hill to his left, bordered by a small stream of lava. He could probably see the whole volcanic land from up there.
He stepped over the small stream and started climbing the mountain. A few minutes later and he was at the top, and no expanse of land was too far for him to see. He decided to take the nearest wooden bridge across a stretch of lava that looked particularly menacing. He ran down the mountain and towards the bridge.
The bridge made a faint creaking noise when walked on it. Almost halfway through this dangerous feat, a gurgling made him take the gun off of his back and point it through the rotting wood holding him up.
Suddenly, and with a roar like canon fire, a jet of that liquid fire beneath him curled itself around the middle of the bridge! He ran to the other side, but with a snap the bridge broke in two halves, sending Jaggarth down into the lava! With increasing desperation, he groped at he crumbling wood, at last grabbing a plank that bowed dangerously but did not break! He looked down and saw with racing heart that the tip of his boot was inches from the roaring flames! He looked around. If he only didn't have his gun in his hand That was it! He tried to put the gun back into its sling, but the gun fell into the lava beneath him!
Grumbling, he started free climbing the hot stone wall. His right hand only slipped once as he climbed, and once to the top, he brushed himself off, unsheathing his knife. He saw the exit to the cave ahead of him and ran, but before he got there, Tarks closed in around him! Armed with only his knife, he fought the oncoming Tarks.
One by one they fell, and little by little he was losing health!
