Visiting Niagara Falls

by Norma Budden

Created on: April 28, 2008

Niagara Falls is one of the most photographed areas of the world, with people from all over saving for years just to come and see it - to witness its amazing power. There's the American Falls but the Horseshoe Falls - located on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls - draws more attention, rising an impressive 188 feet while spanning 2,200 feet.

A friend once said to me, "Watching the Horseshoe Falls was a miraculous experience. As I stood gazing at the falls, for what seemed like hours, my troubles just seemed to melt away. Life didn't seem so bad anymore." Her comment made total sense because there's something about comparing life's trials to the power and force of the falls which makes those troubles seem small in comparison.

While Paris, France, is considered one of the most romantic places in the world, Niagara Falls is equally so. Watching Maid of the Mist passengers drawing closer to the thundering falls - while standing beside your partner, especially at night when the lights shine over the falls with a rainbow of colors - it feels like the most spectacular place on Earth.

Regardless of the duration of your stay in Niagara Falls, some of the most popular attractions to check out during your visit include:

Maid of the Mist
If you would like to get closer to the falls - to feel the spray - the Maid of the Mist will take you there. It's a steamboat with multiple decks to cater to large numbers of tourists at a time. A raincoat must be worn because the spray from the falls will totally drench your clothing otherwise. The Maid of the Mist is an attraction which should definitely be experienced.

Journey Behind the Falls
Feel the power and thunder as you stand on a viewing platform 13 storeys below the Horseshoe Falls. Offers a breath-taking, awe-inspiring view.

White Water Walk
Take a walk along the boardwalk beside one of the world's wildest stretches of whitewater. Watch the force of nature as trillions of gallons of water are forced into the trough. It's a breath-taking experience!

Also, you can see information about the stunts people have performed throughout the years, such as riding over the falls in a barrel and tight-roping across the falls.

Whirlpool Aero Car
Take the cable car across the falls. Far below, the direction of the water changes, creating the Niagara Whirlpool. This is one of the world's most mesmerizing natural phenomenon, which can be frightening, but it will be something you won't forget.

Marineland
When in Niagara Falls, you can't forget about the
