A picture may be worth a thousand words but the words you write will never fade. Memories of your wedding day are precious and deserve special attention. You can use both pictures and words to create a scrapbook that will last for years to come. A scrapbook is a great way to capture thoughts, feelings, keepsakes and memories from your special day. Start your project by following these tips:
#1. MAKE A PLAN
Begin your project by choosing a style for your album. Do you want to have an elegant, sentimental scrapbook or are interactive, colorful pages more your style?
Scrapbooks that are about one occasion usually look best when the pages have a unified appearance. Consider using similar colors on all the pages to create a unified style.
Choose what pictures, quotes, embellishments, and keepsakes should be used. Unfortunately you can't include every picture or keepsake in your scrapbook. If you have problems getting started, look at on-line scrapbook sites for inspiration.
#2. CHOOSE PICTURES
Go through all your wedding photographs with your spouse. If one of you has to stop and tell a story about a picture, put it aside. If there are any other pictures that strike your fancy, put those aside as well.
With a critical eye, take another look at your pictures. Layouts usually look better with one or two photos to focus on. Choose your favorites and place all your remaining photos in an album. Don't forget to make copies of your chosen photos so that the originals are not harmed.
Place your pictures in the order you want them to appear in your scrapbook. Now you are ready to begin journaling.
#3. JOURNALING
Journaling is the heart of scrapbooks. Pretend you are a reporter covering your wedding. Look at your pictures and ask yourself "who, what, how, where, when." Reflect on your feelings. Take note of your wedding attire or other special aspects of your wedding. Use a piece of paper and write something about each of your chosen photos.
Consider handwritten journal entries in lieu of computer fonts. Handwritten journaling adds a certain charm to your layouts. It also gives personality to your work. If your handwriting makes you nervous, practice on a piece of paper first. When you are ready to write on your layout, use a pencil and then trace over it with your pen.
#4. QUOTES
Using quotes is a great way to highlight a theme or feeling on your pages. Search for quotes on-line, in books, and in magazines. You can even buy pre-made quote books at your local craft store.
#5. EMBELLISHMENTS
Choose your embellishments carefully. Adding more than one or two can give your layout a cluttered appearance. Make sure your embellishments enhance the overall effect of your page. The pictures and journaling should take center stage. As always, make sure to keep in mind the style of your scrapbook.
#6. MEMORABILIA
You can use your invitations, the color swatch of your bridesmaids dresses and even receipts in your pages. Ask the maid of honor and the best man for copies of their speech. Include a list of your favorite songs from the reception. Include cards from family and friends. If some items are too large, like flowers or favors, take a picture.
#7. SHORT ON TIME?
If you are too busy to finish your scrapbook, don't despair! You can purchase pre-made pages on-line and in stores for around $10. You can also consider throwing a scrapbook party and inviting your bridesmaids.
Creating a scrapbook of your wedding can be a special time for you to relive those special moments. Try not to feel stressed about getting it all done at once. Instead, make goals and take it one day at a time. Most importantly, have fun and be creative.
