One of the reasons why I write is because it's my drug of choice. If I didn't write I'd probably be looking for my next fix or I'd be a recovering AA member who goes out for a coffee in a pub.
Writing calms me down. It did a lot of good while I was going through my divorce. If I hadn't put pen to paper I'd probably be serving a maximum sentence in a maximum security prison, for causing serious bodily harm to my ex. When I write I manage to zone out whatever is happening around me, get quiet and figure out my own life. Writing allows me to mature in different aspects of my life. I react less to things.
I've taken the road that suites me best. As the saying goes; the pen is mightier than the sword. I couldn't agree with it more. The sword would've landed me the electric chair. I find writing liberating. I can do and say things I wouldn't normally say in real life.
Writing allows me to weave up plans and helps me release anger. Writing is a great release for me without harming another. When I write I can become a highly successful independent woman who secretly pigs out in her penthouse. I can become a regular housewife who drives her husband barmy and sends him to an early grave by cooking him deep fat fried meals.
It's the escape of writing that's great for me. I love living in the temporary fantasy world of my characters. The creation of what I would like my world to be, even if it is fantasy, it is like what yoga is to others. Writing helps me get rid of stress and I find a lot out about myself when I write. It's like a map that guides me to my inner thoughts and at the same time I find answers to questions about myself.
I get to laugh at the world I live in and make fun of myself, this allows me to live in the fantasy world with out the consequences of the real world. Sometimes I sit and write when I'm on my lunch break. Writing has taught me to observe the way people speak and act, it has also brought me understanding as to why some people act the way they do. When I write I can be an observer without the desire to control. It's a wonderful space to be in when you realize what you can and can't control and writing has brought me this freedom.
I write because I'd probably sound like a cat with it's tail trapped between the door to Simon Cowell. I also don't own a pair of shoes high enough to land me a job in the circus so writing it is. When it comes to writing I let go and become and no boundaries can prevail.
