Seriously? Who came up with this question anyway? Just because something is a cartoon doesn't mean it's reserved for kids only. Kids don't just watch cartoons. There are shows that aren't animated for kids Hannah Montana and the like, and there are shows that are animated for adults, Family Guy, South Park etc.
What is the justification for banning so-called adult cartoons? Is it because we look at shows like Family Guy and we think, "oh this is harmless, because it's animated. I'll let my kids watch it without paying attention to the TV ratings, content of the show, or the fact that it comes on at nine o'clock when my kids should be in bed anyway."
Come on! No genre is dominated by one audience. And adult cartoons aren't fooling anyone. Anyone with a head can sense that these shows aren't for kids. So again what is your justification for banning them?
Why are cartoons so popular anyway? Because the characters can do things that couldn't happen to real life humans. It's about fantasy, and adults maybe more so then children need that escape. Children have less cares and more opportunities for imagination than adults do. So if adults want a little escape, want to see something totally ridiculous, why can't they? The best quality of adult cartoons is that most of them are satirical. So after they come home from a stressful day at work, watch the news to learn about how terrible the world seems, ADULTS can laugh about society's flaws, and that makes it easier to wake up the next day and go through the drama all over again.
Let's face it, cartoons were never a symbol of morality; they were never meant to be judged and no one seriously considers Daffy Duck a role model, because he's a cartoon! In my day, Looney Toons, Pinkey and the Brain, Bugs Bunny, Tom and Jerry etc. dominated the Cartoon Network. These we're cartoons devoted to violence and complete idiocracy. I watched them everyday before and after school, and I turned out fine.
If we are banning adult cartoons, maybe we should ban all adult content from TV. People who think that adult content should just be on the internet or in video are delusional. How is that different? How does that protect children? Kids can work a DVD player, and probably navigate the internet better than adults. So we should just ban R rated movies, and just about every kind of music. Can adults be entertained? Maybe everyone should just take responsibility. If you don't want you're kids watching certain programs, don't let them. But don't ban freedom of expression! Don't gag artists and don't take happiness away from those who enjoy it. It's just a cartoon, stop taking it so seriously.
