Run away, far away,
to someplace no one will look
and be glad you left today
with the hopes and dreams you took.
It's a funny bundle, yours,
full of laughs and moans and screams,
stuffed with hugs and with locked doors,
cherished kisses and bad dreams.
It's all the things you want to keep:
friends' farewells, the songs you sing;
it's all the things that make you weep:
an empty promise, a slapped cheek's sting.
But pick it up and take it with you:
it's the only thing that's yours.
And, when your wandering is through,
your heart, once earth-bound, finally soars,
you'll be glad you ran away,
and happy with the dreams you took.
Run away - far away.
Run someplace no one will look.
