Your eyes are the center of my universe
All light in the heavens bends to your glance
Every face in the room wants to turn toward you
Especially mine
Your gaze cuts through me
Like a hot knife through butter
Melting, yielding, soft,
Everything that is in me diffuses
Spreads out thin and wasted
Scraped by your jagged edges and yet
The next morning
Next evening
Every day, every night, every week, every year
Forever
I'll beg for more

No satisfaction, does there seem
The cavernous, empty vacuum
The huge, echoing back room
"Street children"
Orphaned, hungry alone,
they ravage the garbage
Pillar through trash cans and waste,
Looking for one morsel,
One piece of bread a day
Was all I had
Sometimes, I would break it in half
Sometimes, I could make it toast
My children's bellies

Searching, longing, growing old
