Angels are commonly referred to as messengers of God, but they are much more than the word messenger implies. They don't just carry messages from God to human beings. They are the spirits of God's 72 unspeakable Names. God has assigned each angel certain weeks, days and times of dominion. The angels have their own special qualities (or gifts) to bring to humankind. How we choose to use these qualities are a result of the qualities themselves, colored by our own free will.

I learned the specifics about the angels from several sources through the years, including the guidance of my own angels, but my favorite is the book by author and songwriter Terah Cox entitled Birth Angels: Fulfilling Your Life Purpose with the 72 Angels of the Kabbalah. Kabbalah is the ancient wisdom said to be given to Moses and Aaron and the 70 elders who accompanied them on Mt. Sinai during the Exodus.

We come to receive our special guidance from the angels by the will of God. He determines our conception and our time of birth. Each of us have experiences and nudges from our ethereal guardians from the moment of our birth, until the end of our earth life. Our angels can lead us to the experiences we need to work out our karmic imbalances, as well as introducing us to others who have need of us!

The three areas in which the angels influence us the most is through our intellect, emotions, and physical life. For example, my intellect angel Nitthaiah is the angel of Spiritual Wisdom and Magic. Without having any knowledge of the angels as a child, I was always fascinated with the magical and mysterious. My thoughts were (and still are!) frequently engaged in thoughts of God, spirits, angels, flying and the like. Nitthaiah has guided me to many exciting places in this lifetime! My emotion angel is Nelchael, the angel of Desiring to Learn. If curiosity killed the cat, every cat within ten miles of me would be in peril.

Our angels also protect us from danger. This is commonly referred to as a Guardian Angel, but all of our own angels will help us in this way. Our angels bring us the life partners we need to fulfill our purpose in life, or to teach us important lessons we need to learn. They affect other members of our family and our friends. There is a mind-boggling synchronicity to the function of angels in our lives. More than we can ever understand, they are continually bringing the cause and effect that transforms us from one life stage to the next.

Angels influence our dream life, too. Have you ever had a dream which clearly spoke to you of future danger, opportunity, or a change you needed to make in your life? Many times I believe this is your angel.

Our angels are not intrusive but I believe they are always busy. As the Bible indicates, they "run and return." I also believe that God sends them to help us when we ask Him, and even sometimes when we don't.

The only way I have ever "heard" an angel is by hearing them in times of danger. It sounds like my own self-talk, but the idea is not mine. I think we all can benefit from the guidance of our angels, even in everyday life choices. Angels sometimes give us a tiny bit of insight or a little push in the right direction. I also believe they bring people across my path exactly when I need them.
