Attending school as an adult-learner is difficult for many individuals. The accommodation of busy schedules is an important consideration when a potential student considers furthering their education. One alternative for adult-learners is an online education. Many schools possess the ability to educate its students via the Internet. The University of Phoenix has been providing on-line educations since 1976, which makes it one of the most experienced schools providing this type of education.
The University of Phoenix provides software downloads to configure the students' computers for his or her upcoming class. The configuration of an individual's computer is a one-step process for the student from the University's website. The one-step process sets up several newsgroups that the students submit discussions to regarding the topics of the class. If a specific software program is required for a class, the student may purchase the program at a reduced rate through the school's bookstore.
On the first day of class the instructor, or facilitator, uploads the syllabus for the five-week course and other supporting documentation required by students. In addition, the facilitator submits his or her biography to provide the students with some general knowledge about the teacher. The students submit their biographies and reply to other biographies in the newsgroup.
The benefits of attending classes on-line at the University provide the student with flexibility regarding class times. A student may check in and respond to their classmate's discussions when convenient. The instructor who facilitates the classes possesses a master's degree or higher and usually works in the field to provide his or her working knowledge to the students. The University of Phoenix offers many different degree programs and is a viable option to adult-learners. An on-line education is worth considering when an individual desires to attend school and work at the same time.
