The eclectic mix of festivals in Miami/Dade County this spring is really quite remarkable. If you could attend each of these festivals, you'd come away with a new bank of knowledge and a smile on your face. Miami hosts several festivals that have been annual events for many years. And if experience counts, you can expect them to get bigger and better each year. Mark your calendar now, and invite some friends. Here's the spring and festival lineup.
1. Miami Gay and Lesbian Film Festival

The Miami Gay & Lesbian Film Festival (MGLFF), now in its 10th year, will kick off on April 25 with an Opening Night Gala. Throughout the 10 day event, the best new gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender films will be featured. Presented by HBO, the festival this year will include films from around the world. The MGLFF Career Achievement Award will be presented on Saturday, May 3. The Closing Night Gala will wrap up the event on Sunday, May 4. 2. Canes Film Festival

The students in the School of Communication Motion Picture Program, University of Miami showcase their productions in the annual Canes Film Festival. There are films of all genres including narrative, documentary, and animated films. These student-produced films run from 3-10pm each day. 3. Redland International Orchid Festival

Some of the world's most respected orchid growers and hybridizes are located in The Redlands agricultural area in South Florida. There are 5 nurseries that comprise the Redlands Professional Orchid Growers . Homestead, Florida, is proud to host the 12th Annual Orchid Festival. Over 60 vendors from across the globe will be represented at the festival. This is an American Orchid Society judged event, so competitive entries will be accepted. There will be walking tours led by professional orchidists. Two vendors will be on hand to provide supplies for planting and growing orchids. Lectures and demonstrations will cover the care and culture of hybrids
