If you let it, children's clothing can be astronomically expensive! It need not be if you are creative and willing to invest some time in looking for bargains.
There are a number of places you can look for good deals on children's clothing. One of the easiest ways to get a good deal is to shop for the opposite season that is now being targeted in the stores. If it's Spring, look for Winter clearance sales. It is fairly easy to figure out what size you'll need. The only thing you need to do then is store your finds until their needed. It's always nice to be able to pull them out and know you have a head start on the season.
Over the past decade, an entire subset of resale shops have opened that are totally devoted to children's clothing and gear. These stores not only sell at less then half the price of retail stores, they also take your used clothing and issue cash or credit for them.
If you don't know where to look for one of these stores. Find and area that has a lot of new housing developments in it. Chances are a resale shop won't be far away. The reason for this phenomenon is that all these new developments are filled with new and growing families. Hence the need for a resale shop.
When considering frequenting a resale shop, check out their policies on what they quality they accept from sellers. You want to make sure that the quality and condition policies are strict. That helps cut down on the time you'll need to spend in checking each piece of clothing you purchase.
New housing developments are also a great place to yard sale for infant and toddler clothes. In many developments the home owners will get together and have their sales on one day. That makes it efficient to go from one to another. The prices can't be beat, especially the later the time gets. These people just want to move this stuff out of their house. That means a shopping jackpot for you!
If you are looking for clothes for older children go to a more established housing development during one of their yard sale days. It might sound crazy, but it works. These developments have been there longer, therefore so have the families. The kids here will be older as well. You will be able to satisfy your teens appetite for name brands for pennies on the dollar!
Finally, the very best way to get your money's worth, the tried and true holds up. Pass clothes down to younger siblings. If you don't have a younger sibling of the same sex, find a friend who does. Passing around clothes is the very best way to make the most of them. But have some pity on the younger ones. Let them pick out some new clothes as well and don't make them wear something they absolutely hate. The money you save there will not cover the cost of the therapist they need later to discuss how their mother always made them wear hand me downs.
