Why not penalize a foul? I think its already a very high penalty because it increases likelihood of diving, but also they should make diving an automatic red card.

Soccer is not a contact sport, if played as if it was a player should be penalized. Its meant strictly to be a test of skill and speed, being able to dangerously tackle a player and risk injuring him definitely only subtracts from the basic fundamentals of the game.

Plus there is no reason to want to raise the injury count in soccer, its best off that the players don't get broken bones that might make or break important matches. Letting players recklessly thrash through other players to get to the ball would only increase chances of being hurt making soccer a much more violent aggressive sport.

Also this would also increase the already high amount of diving in soccer, as some players already intentionally fall to get a call, and if there was more legal rough tackles they would juts fall hoping it would look bad enough to get the ref to make a call for their side.

Personally i think all that making aggressive reckless tackles only subtracts skill from the game and replaces it with violent aggression. Which nobody needs.

Now maybe its true that its already a high enough penalty for dangerous tackles, and maybe it does not need to be a much more severe penalty, but it definitely should not be any less then it is because it still happens too frequently in almost any soccer game. This may be because the penalty for it isn't severe enough, but it may also be that people just know how to make dangerous tackles and keep it legal. Either way soccer should be played as more a game of skill then a game of power.

Now i still think it is difficult to say weather it should be more severe, but i am definitely leaning towards yes. Simply because it would be nice to see it less and less in professional soccer matches. It severity of the penalty should not be in any way determined on how injured the opposing player gets, because it is very possible he took a dive or just tripped. It should solely be based on how stupid of a challenge it was, and if he was concerned or not about the opposing players personal safety when challenging for the ball.

Decreasing the amount of physical contact in soccer can only be a good thing, it will just make the skilled players more dominant over the slow players who play off power, which should make for a much more interesting game.

So do i think it should be a higher penalty?

Yes, it needs to be stopped one way or another and if the only way to do that is increasing the severity of a penalty, then thats what needs to be done.
