stirred together in a bowl are a delicacy). I myself being a picky eater and not being a fan of soup or beef think that always-hearty beef stew in a can looks like dog food. Or vomit. Take your pick. While I was buying our groceries my husband picked up firewood which he loaded into the truck in the blink of an eye. Probably because he didn't want me to tell him what kind of wood to buy. After getting all of our supplies and settling up with the native Mainer at the counter (you can just tell these things), we headed back to camp just before dark pleased that we got all the supplies that we did for such a bargain.

Excited to toast marshmallows my husband got the wood off the truck to start a fire. Fire rings are provided at Blackwoods. They are nice fire rings too. They are big enough to build a fire that provides plenty of warmth on those chilly Maine evenings but after unsuccessfully trying to light the fire with half a can of stove fuel we concluded that something was wrong. I examined the wood. Now I love my husband with all my heart. He is the smartest man I have ever met. He is an avid outdoorsman, an awesome fisherman, and I have to tell you that I have never known someone so athletically gifted. But I fear if my husband ever becomes lost in the woods his best chance for survival would be if he had his cell phone with him. Examining firewood in the middle of the night in the pitch-black, Maine woods is no easy feat. However; it was very easy for me to tell that the wood needed to dry out and should have never been purchased. I didn't get angry but instead I was looking forward to snuggling with my husband in our well pitched tent. If we lay the wet wood out on the picnic table the sun would dry it in the morning enough so that we could use it the next night.

Now anyone who has ever been to the coast of Maine knows the weather is very unpredictable especially if you're near the coast. Before we called it a night I said to my down on his luck hero, "We should probably put the firewood in the bed of the truck in the event that it rains."

"It's not going to rain. They didn't forecast it," my husband said matter of factly.

I should also mention to those of you who have never been to the Northeast that the humidity is worse here than anywhere else in the United States and due to the high humidity thunderstorms are more likely to crop up, than not, on any given night. But I knew at that point not to buck the "Big Guy" (I am sure other women
