Poetry: Little things

by Joost Steffensen

Created on: April 26, 2008

It's little things that bother me,
that drive me up the wall.
They're giving me the willies
and making my skin crawl.

It's the way you eat your apple,
the way you crunch and chunder,
the way way you eat the stem and core,
and rip the fruit asunder.

It is the way you move your feet.
You shuffle and you skliff.
It makes me want to scream out loud
or jump down of a cliff.

It is the way you hover
behind me when I write.
I feel your looming presence
and I'm hugging myself tight.

I know these things are stupid.
They should not bother me.
I love the person that you are
and who you let me be.

But I am just a victim.
I seem to have no choice.
These little things destroy me,
they're leaving me no voice.

I wish I had a reason
more valid and more sound,
but darling when you read this,
I won't be around.

I hope you are not angry,
but I felt too much pain.
The little things you did,
were driving me insane.
