System Of A Down At The 9:30 Club
It's nine o'clock and the lights dim.
The riotous crowd erupts into
a manic symphony of screams, hollers
and yells. A shadow appears onstage-
a tall lean man, head shaved, with a long
goatee. Hunched over, he comes to life
as his agile fingers tickle
his instrument at a frenzied pace,
the thunderous bass rouses
the eternal sea of Oneness, pregnant
with divine creativity. Each note
penetrates and dissolves self-erected
psychic boundaries within this shared
event of time and space, each riff
electrifies the temporary
collective consciousness. Now the lights
begin swirling, dancing along with
the rhythm, reflecting four gorgeous
creatures in the spotlight, four perfect
specimens of manhood, four highly
evolved fingers in the hand of
artistic genius. But my eyes remain
fixed on that initial figure, sexy
bassist Shavo Odadjian. All my
memories, ideas and dreams fade away
as I melt into this enthralling
moment, this perfect night outside of time,
this sacred connectedness flowing
between his atoms and mine. I am
mesmerized by his raw talent,
enchanted by his wild beauty. He
embodies passion in his every
move, making love to the melody,
gently caressing each note; other
times he f*cks it hard and rough, pounding
his essence into the performance,
pursed lips, sweat dripping, his eyes aflame
with throbbing intensity. He drives
the hypnotic aural mindf*ck into
a gushing crescendo of pure pleasure,
sound oozing orgasmically through the
speakers and permeating my aura.
I close my eyes and the crowd disappears.
When I open them, I see Shavo's
tantalizing gaze. There is no
disguising my intentions, my eyes
do not lie: "I am yours for the taking.
Do with me what you will." Undressing
me with his lustful stare, I sense my
inner fire awakening. The heat
sends shivers through my body, the
Kundalini rises steadily up
my spine, as we come together in
mind-blowing psychic sex. By the end
of the show, I am completely
overwhelmed by this cathartic
experience, by the transcendent
musical journey. On my drive home,
tears stream down my cheeks, marking 90
of the most ecstatic, inspiring,
and memorable minutes of my life.
