Poetry: Nature's seasons

by Cate Stewart

SPRING

The flowers show
The grass will grow
This wondrous thing,
It must be spring!

The air is fresh
And at its best
The ice will go
So will the snow

And winter's chill
Has left at will
The snowy past
is gone at last

The luscious green
Can now be seen
As the sun leaves clouds
The birds sing loud

The animals wake
And sounds they make
To welcome spring
This wonderful thing

SUMMER
The heat is strong
The haze is here
The days are long
Its the time of year

For ice cream
And popsicles
For sunbeams
And picnics with pickles

For the unfortunate
There are mosquitos
For the fortunate
That's when we go inside

Long walks at the park
Or in the woods
The meadow lark
Sings very good

The animals come
Out to play
But they're not dumb
They wait for the cool of the day

FALL

Fall brings to us a
Sense of loss and little gain
Yet there is strength there.

WINTER

Winter is in the air
And so are its songs fair
He days grow short
So do the sports
Of the wildcat who returns to his lair
