Poetry: Two hearts

by Gary Maclean

TWO HEARTS

Two hearts alone in solitude
Making one heart full of both
Two hearts coming together
Under just one solemn oath

My heart I blend with yours, dear
My heart I give complete
I ask for yours in kind, love
Together, our desires, replete

It's not a fairy tale
It's not a game we play
Those words we said as vows
Mean exactly what they say

The Unity Candle is not for show
It isn't just something sentimental
To ignore the intent of it's message
For us could be very detrimental

Our two hearts are now as one
We've taken all the precautions
We've said the vows and gave the rings
And confessed of our affections

As we continue through our life
We must remember what we've done
We've vowed before man and God
From this moment on we are one

There can be no other infatuation
Only two hearts can be with us
We keep that vow forever more
And our union he will surely bless

Two hearts, two souls, forever more
One life that is our union
Two hearts, two souls, the rest of time
In blissful, sweet communion
