The cultural arts pulse of this multicultural city has many great museums to enjoy, whether you are a tourist or native of the city. Miami often seen as a southern East Coast center of high fashion, art deco splash and fast lane lifestyle offers great options for cultural education and fun through its unique eclectic fusion of museum experiences.
FAMILY MUSEUMS
The MIAMI MUSEUM of NATURAL SCIENCE is a wonderful place to take a break from the beach and sun. It is a hands on experience for kids of all ages. It houses an Aquarium, Wildlife Center and the awesome Planetarium made famous by Jack Horkheimer's "Star Gazer" TV Show. You may also want to see The Falcon Batchelar Bird of Prey Center for wildlife rehabilitation on the museum grounds.
The AMERICAN POLICE MUSEUM and HALL of FAME was established in 1960, long before CSI and Miami Vice made criminal forensics a household word. It is the first police museum dedicated to fallen police officers in America. This unique museum displays over 10,000 crime fighting artifacts, which include an up close look at an electric chair. You can also (for an extra fee) take a ride in a police helicopter. The older kids will love this museum.
The MIAMI CHILDREN'S MUSEUM is a fun interactive place to visit the entire family will enjoy. There is a 2 story sandcastle to explore, a cruise ship awaits your arrival to hop aboard, a working TV studio where you see yourself on television and for the future investment banker there is a 6 foot walk through piggy bank. This museum is full of fun, entertaining and educational exhibits that all kids 12 and under will love.
The GOLD COAST RAILROAD MUSEUM allows the family to interact with model trains zipping around the rooms and an actual locomotive cab, you can board and have a simulated experience operating a train. If your family likes choo choo trains and Thomas Tank is one of your children's favorite characters, this museum is a blast.
ART FOR THE ADULTS
Miami has a plethora of excellent art museums with a world class permanent platform of exhibits and visiting shows that are many times only seen in the the stylish panorama of Dade County venues.
