pooped
and the last poem I wrote... drooped
to an all-time low on the ratings charts
but don't ask why
cause I dunno
stumped
and now my energy has sunk
to an abysmally low level
however if you'd like to know
pretend to show no concern
since it would only serve to burden me
with your feelings
and I can barely manage my own
bored
well, not really bored... just floored
at how time passes
so rapidly
and haphazardly
and seems that I'll never get done
my mammoth to-do list of things
but don't ask what things
because you can't help me
compartmentalize or further organize
this sea of papers I'm drowning in
resolved
committed to a cause
that may very well be larger than life
and definitely larger than me
like raising a community
of children who crave parenting
but don't ask why i'm not excited about it
cause I might cry at the very thought
of this mammoth responsibility
that has derailed my own plans for childbearing
since I can't possibly have the energy
to love the neighborhood's kids
and have my own
simultaneously
drained
but not empty
nor will I ever be
cause I'm too quick-witted
eventually I'll pull it together
for the sake of all parties
I always do ... and I always will
but don't ask why some days I fake it to make it
cause I'm in the business of hacking it
i've made an artform out of "standing it"
so don't you worry about me
i'll take my pooper-scooper, tree stump
and bottle of drain-o and work this labor of love
rather peacefully and efficiently
don't bother to ask if you can come along me
i've got my resolve and it serves as my battery
and if this piece tanks like those before it
i'll just pick it up, bag it, and dispose of it
with all decorum and propriety

I won't ask why God gave us life
Enjoy it, celebrate and be glad
One day God will call us home
And life will be over.
