Poetry: Spring showers

by Susan Day Campbell

Created on: April 26, 2008

Capricious spring showers of sunshine and rain
Take turns swirling patterns on my windowpane.
They sweep through the meadows and gardens with glee,
Off'ring cool drinks to flowers and rude squirts at me.

It's just such a springtime; it loves to play tricks,
Like storms that bombard us, with splashes and licks. . .
In our chilly ears, as rains whirl through our lives.
They give us the willies, while they whoop high fives!

Spring rain channels spirit to young shoot and sprout,
But us humans, when wetted, are prone to blurt out
Indelicate words as we rush through the showers.
Our hairdos go limp and our faces sport glowers.

Yet in spite of the tricks Mother Nature bestows,
Our anticipation for the new season grows. . .
Throughout the long winter, until Springtide comes. . .
To shower us with hope, and our heartstrings it thrums.
