Hunger
Guttural longing uncontrolled
Both night and day
Throughout the world
Searching, longing, growing old
Seeking protection
From the cold
Hunger for the missing peace
Of humanity's
Loving grace
Reaching out
But touching none
Alone again when day is done
Hunger for a loving touch
Some reprieve
From the bitter cup
Just when all the hope
Runs dry
Loving hearts receive the cry
Mouths are fed
Hearts are mended
Differences aside now all are blended
Hunger no more dictates fate
Love unites
The human race

Poetry: Hunger
Blindly, I walk through the city streets of Atlanta
My eyes glazed over with visions not of you and your friends
Laughing
by Gary Maclean
A hollow forms deep, within my being
No satisfaction, does there seem
The cavernous, empty vacuum
The huge, echoing back room
"Street children"
Orphaned, hungry alone,
they ravage the garbage
Pillar through trash cans and waste,
Looking for one morsel,
One piece of bread a day
Was all I had
Sometimes, I would break it in half
Sometimes, I could make it toast
My children's bellies
