days), they should probably be tried as such. Let the punishment fit the crime, no matter what the age of the perpetrator. Would that serve as a deterrent to others? Most likely not. Not even youth detention centers seem to deter others from committing such heinous acts. We can't very well put our young children and teens in prison, alongside hardened, mature criminals and we most certainly can't put them to death. However, when such a young mind has already been tarnished, can they ever truly be rehabilitated to the point of become contributing members of society? Their actions are sure to follow them throughout their lives in one form or another.
Possibly, instead of charging youngsters for their crimes, the parents should be held accountable. In that way, we might all give more thought as to how we're raising our children and apply better parenting skills! A case in point. The mother of a young teenage girl, who is now up on charges with her friends for beating up a fellow school mate, both defended her daughter's actions and showed total disregard to the police and authorities of their city. Is this a proper role model for this child, possibly causing her to commit such an atrocity in the first place? Maybe the mother is just as much to blame and should be punished as well, or in place of the daughter. Maybe the parents of these youngsters, who murdered the seven year-old child, should stand alongside their children in a court of law and be charged with that murder.
It is this writer's personal opinion, that if parents were held accountable for their children's actions, we'd either start having better parents raising better children, or we'd have a lot of parents sitting in prison for the crimes of their offspring. Either way, it might make for a better and safer society for the rest of us, and cause others to think twice about hurting or killing another human being!
