If you think that Hollywood has run out of ideas, you would be wrong. Hollywood hasn't run out of ideas. They're just afraid to explore new ideas. There are so many stigmas in Hollywood. Skin color, hair type, expensive clothing, and other trends seem to dictate what is seen on the big screen. This is why many people shun Hollywood films and shows in favor of independent ones. Indie films are willing to take a risk. They depict people more in their natural states, whereas Hollywood does not.
This is probably due to the fact that money and capitalism (in general) run Hollywood. If you see an actress on screen, you must pay attention to her hair and shoes. The next thing you know, she is endorsing a designer and ultimately gets her own clothing line. It's a brutal, harsh, yet inexplicably popular cycle.
In the future, you will see more and more remakes of films and TV shows because this is the safe option. It is much easier to market something that was already successful in the past. Additionally, executives know that a good portion of their market has never even heard of the shows and films they're remaking. That's why they can get away with reviving old ideas.
As long as there is life, there will always be things to write about. But it takes a talented team of writers and producers to convey sophistication and innovation to audiences. The problem is that Hollywood "dumbs down" its entertainment. Thus, people begin to feed into the idea that all things shiny and glossy are what counts. It's a horrible sentiment. But of course, this is what makes the big bucks. The concept of "running out of ideas" is a cop-out. It's an excuse not to deviate from the norm. It's a very myopic way of entertaining the world. But until audiences demand more of Hollywood, they will always revisit established ideas. And also until that happens, executives will continue to squeeze every dime out of ideas that have already make people millions of dollars. Again, this is a sad state of affairs. But there seems to be no one who feels bold enough to challenge the status quo.
