You wake up and make a pot of coffee. Turning to the TV you click it on. What's this? That can't be right. Clearly you are still dreaming, you would have to be. Where is that coffee again?
You change the channel, yet you find the same thing there. It's on the next channel as well. Every news agency is reporting the sudden and overwhelming evidence of the existence of alien life. You sit back and take it in, not sure what to make of it yet. How will this change things? Will it? Does it change what you think about life? How about religion?
Many say that if life exists outside of earth then it must mean religion has it all wrong. Surely God must not exist! Right?
The fact is the existence of one doesn't necessarily negate the other. It has been argued that if God exists he created life only on Earth and no where else. Where does that logic come from? The idea of God creating many diverse living organisms on Earth seems to hint he must love life. Why would someone who loves life create a vast universe and breath life into only a single dot. Others argue that if alien life does in fact exist, then surely this proves God isn't real after all. It proves life exists outside of what he is believed to have created and contradicts what some religions seem to believe. However it seems to take more faith to believe that life happened to randomly come into existence in two or more locations in the universe, than it does to believe in the possibility of intelligent design.
This article isn't intended to argue for or against the existence of either God or alien life, but instead to show that belief in both doesn't have to be incompatible.
