Poetry: Don't ask

Don't ask why things bother me
that I never noticed much before

Too loud music, too short skirts
People on cell-phones at the grocery store

Don't ask why -the light turns green
foot is barely on the gas

Car behind, it blares the horn
gestures wildly, let it pass

Don't ask why they won't hold the door
for someone rushing in the rain

Or kindly move their stuff aside
to make room on a crowded train

Don't ask why at the coffee shop
no one there will take the time

To smile and look you in the eye,
yet you're paying 7.99

Don't ask why it all began
kid's calling grown-ups by their first name

I happen to miss the Mr or Mrs
I have to admit, I think it's a shame

Don't ask why these little things
are getting bigger every

One bad moment, invites another
but it doesn't have to be this way.

Take the time to stop and think
little good things add up too

Ask why not - I'd much prefer
a pleasant planet, wouldn't you?

I can see it in their eyes,
as they approach me in that way.
Looking to find the right words,
for a comforting thing to say.

    Stranded between rooms,
    the admission hit us like
    colliding trees

struck down by an unseen hand.

    "Who, then?"
    I repeated,
    as if

    My hair is tussled
    Knotted and messed
    Haven't yet found the time
    To get myself dressed

    The big baggy t-shirt
    I slept in last night
    Has
