Poetry: Directions

The mechanical mistress

My husband travels around the state.
He goes to work early and comes home late.

He travels wide; he travels far.
He and his mistress, in the car.

"A mistress?" you ask, "why am I not mad?
It's because with directions he's really bad.

He needs some help or he gets lost
Then gets in trouble with his boss.

That was before he met his new friend
She gives him directions like "turn left at the bend".

She tells him to stop; she says: go right
She says: go straight until the next light.

She has a sweet voice, though a bit mechanical
And with directions she's quite tyrannical.

She's a calculating gal, but he loves her so
though she spends all day telling him where to go.

And since she's been helping him navigate,
He's never missed a meeting or even been late.

His traveling companion, his soft spoken mistress
Came with the car, she's a *G.P.S!
