Microsoft release new operating system one after another. The latest operating system they released, of course, Windows Vista. Came with new look and more important, a promise of a more secured system, an issue that make some people prefer Linux over Windows.
If we see how people react with previous new Windows operating system, like Windows 2000 or XP, several years ago, then we could see that soon or later people will move to the latest operating system.
There are several reason why this is inevitable. New developers who will develop their new application under the new operating system, or at least focused on the new operating system. The progress in computer hardware technology, which provide us with faster processor, bigger hard drives, larger RAM and all of that with cheaper price. Driver updates for device and new patches for old application to be bale to run properly under the new operating system.
So while there will be more device and old application able to run properly in the new operating system, at the same time there will be more new application and new device that only run properly under the new operating system.
Once all the compatibility problem are solved, and we need a new device or application that require Vista, we'll have no other option, but to move to the new operating system. Unless we already satisfied with our already installed application and don't need another one. But is it possible? Unfortunately, in this day, to be competitive, usually we're forced to use the latest technology.
When we reach this point, the profit in using Vista is bigger then the loss. That will make it easy to choose whether we should move to vista or not.
Will most businesses finally move to Vista? Sure, they're forced to. Unless Microsoft came with another new operating system before Vista widely used.
New operating system will give opportunity for the developer to develop a new application, better application (I hope), which give reason for the hardware company to produce a better device to use, which at its turn give reason for the OS developer and application developer to came with new products.
A new operating system give people opportunity to maintain their income, why should they stay with the old operating system then, when it is better to develop a new product that work with the new operating system. It is how it work, there will be new device, new application and new operating system we should buy. Otherwise lots of people will lose their job. A lots of people? No, I mean millions of people will lose their job. Maybe I exaggerate the number a bit, but that's the idea.
