STARVATION
For five days out of every week
My principles withdraw,
While platitudes and tired clichs
Replace all written law,
The watercooler ethics claim
Success outshines control...
Picking at my corporate teeth,
I hunger for my soul.
My television prattles on
And drives me to the brink,
Promoting propagated tales
To teach me how to think;
Politics and business merge
To show my thoughts uncouth...
Chewing on their piece of mind,
I hunger for the truth.
As twilight drifts across my mind
And day fades into night,
Imaginings left unfulfilled
Illuminate my plight;
Compromise and nagging doubt
Defeat my every scheme...
Gently crying in my beer,
I hunger for a dream.
