A Pocketbook Friendly Ghost Hunter's Guide
Ghost hunting or other forms of paranormal research were until recently looked upon as extremely eccentric not to mention pricey ways to spend your time. Now recent interest has made the hobby more accessible to anyone with the drive to pursue it. While on television paranormal investigators simply hop into a vehicle and take off the reality is you need some thrifty planning along with the enthusiasm.
Typically, you will be looking for proof of two kinds of activity using at least three pieces of equipment. Unfortunately, many first timers go about this the wrong way spending big money on expensive gear while doing very little research into what to look for once they have the opportunity to examine a paranormally active area. This hobby can be very inexpensive if you plan well and know exactly what you need and why.
One of the two types of activity to look for is the residual haunting. This is a replay of events at a location. An image, sound, or other impressions of traumatic events keep repeating as if somehow imprinted on the surroundings. The sunken ship seen sailing its final tragic route time and again, or the executed criminal spotted replaying his long walk toward the gallows are both examples of this type of haunting.
An intelligent haunting is one in which an investigator can actually communicate with the paranormal aspect in some way. If the phenomena itself interacts by answering questions, following a command or even by becoming aggressive this can be seen as acts of an intelligent presence and not simply a replay of past events.
Hitting the mystical books these days is easy and the cost shouldn't scare you. Years ago supernatural subject matter was often hard to find and the quality wasn't always good. Now due to its increase in popularity you can find great books on the subject of researching ghosts in almost any bookstore including second-hand buyer shops. It's important to spend some time learning the terminology and tips from long time investigators before heading out on your own. You might want to check with any groups you're thinking of joining to see what authors or experts they recommend so you start out on the same page as everyone else in that organization.
Again, you don't need to begin by spending much on equipment. You should focus on the basics and only expand your toolkit when you're more confident about what you want to achieve in doing paranormal research.
