Memoirs: Grandparents

People say that you should always remember a loved one the way they were when they were happy. Sometimes it doesn't always work that way, but I believe it's how you feel about a person is how you remember them. It's always hard right after a loved one passes away, but the memories are what you have to keep going on and help you through.

My grandmother was a great person and always put her family first. When I was younger my mother, sister and I would spent a lot of time at my grandparents' house. I remember being so excited when my mother would say that we would be going to visit grandma and grandpa. When we would get there grandma would be in the kitchen cooking a dinner or lunch for us and grandpa would be sitting in the living room watching television waiting for us to arrive. I can remember that the house always smelled like food. Usually it was a pie of some sort. My grandmother made the best pies. I would automatically run to the kitchen and begin helping her cook. I loved cooking with her, it's was so much fun.

After we would eat we would sit and talk for awhile with both grandma and grandpa. Then usually we would get out a puzzle or a board game and play for awhile. Playing games with grandma was always fun and it was one of our favorite things to do. We would play a game called Sequence, it was one of grandma's favorite games to play. Another thing we also did was color, she had tons of old coloring books for all of us grandchildren. It was so much fun.

My grandmother loved Christian music. She would always hum a song when was busy in the kitchen or cleaning. I remember her always singing and humming something. She had a keyboard she kept in the living room and she would sit down and play a few songs for us if we were good. One of her favorites was Amazing Grace. She loved that song and I always remember her singing that song. It was so sweet.

She was always so proud of all of us grandchildren. I remember that when I was in the first grade I wrote my first book. I was so excited about it and I couldn't wait for my grandma to read it. The very next time we went to see her I had my book and was very anxious to let her read it. She was so proud of me. It was the best feeling in the world. Every time after that when we would go to visit her she would ask me if I had written anything else yet. I f had I would have it with me waiting for her to read it. She loved everything I wrote and couldn't wait until the next time I would have a new story for her to read.

There are so many things that I could tell someone about her. She was a great woman, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her memories will never be forgotten and her love will keep going on. Always remember someone after they pass on the way you knew and love them best. I love my grandmother and I will always remember her as one of the best, sweetest people I have ever known.
