Commentary: Response to Jay Lenos' comments on "spoiled brat Americans"

by David St. Albans

Created on: April 25, 2008   Last Updated: April 27, 2008

Recently Jay Leno had this to say on President Bush and all of us "spoiled brats" who seem to not like the present administration.

"As most of you know I am not a President Bush fan, nor have I ever been, but this is not about Bush, it is about us, as Americans, and it seems to hit the mark."

"The other day I was reading Newsweek magazine and came across some Poll data I found rather hard to believe. It must be true given the source, right? The Newsweek poll alleges that 67 percent of Americans are unhappy with the direction the country is headed and 69 percent of the country is unhappy with the performance of the President. In essence 2/3 of the citizenry just ain't happy and want a change. So being the knuckle dragger I am, I started thinking, 'What are we so unhappy about?'

A. "Is it that we have electricity and running water 24 hours a day, 7 Days a week?"

Comment: No, Jay. It's the people who see their electric bills and oil and water bills going up every day to the point where they are finding it hard to pay for it all. And they watch Mr. Bush dance a jig on the White House steps because he is going to help McCain, a man he said was too psychologically damaged by being a prisoner of war, to be president! And McCain has promised to continue Bush's legacy of rising prices, endless wars and economic instability. Sometimes we have brown outs and droughts and floods that destroy all our resources and the President does not seem to even care. The people who ran Enron who caused brown outs in California and elsewhere were Bush's friends. This really is about Bush and the job he is (or is not) doing.

B. "Is our unhappiness the result of having air conditioning in the summer and heating in the winter?"

Comment: Many people die in the summer and the winter in our country from lack of air conditioning or heat, usually very old people or babies. And Bush doesn't care. We Americans like America, Jay, we just don't like Bush.

C. "Could it be that 95.4 percent of these unhappy folks have a job?"

Comment: Hundreds of thousands of people lose their jobs every month now as they are given away to foreigners who cannot even speak English. And we have to deal with them on our computers and phones all the time. Or we are laid off as stores and factories shut down operations. And Bush doesn't care.Jay, have you been watching the unemployment statistics?

D. "Maybe it is the ability to walk into a grocery store at any time and see more food in moments than Darfur has seen in the last
