Corn fields, bean fields, hay, oats, wheat, and alfalfa are some of the fine commodities you will find in the Midwest. I live in Iowa, right in the heart of the Midwest. Family, change of seasons, clean air, beautiful sunsets, green foliage and clean water are some of the reasons I love the Midwest.
Living in the Midwest all 41 years of my life is special. I enjoy the change of the seasons. With spring comes new life through the seeds that the farmers plant in the clean black dirt that Iowa offers. Summertime brings blue robins eggs in many nests so neatly assembled. Fall brings beautiful foliage with the orange, yellow, and red leaves that sprinkle the landscape. Winter brings beautiful frosted pine trees with a picturesque beauty of its own.
We have several beautiful lakes that many enjoy boating and fishing for walleye, and of course the big one that got away! Canoeing is something that is enjoyed by many on the Iowa and Shell Rock Rivers. We have a pace of life that is very relaxing and enjoyable. My family and I spend countless hours walking to the nearest stream while our boys skip rocks on the water. Our dogs also enjoy the occasional dip in the refreshing clear water on a hot summer day.
On a clear summer evening it's an extraordinary experience to lay in the grass and look up at the sky. The Milky Way becomes clear quickly, as the sky is dark. There are not many places where one can look up at the sky and find several constellations. Satellites are easy to spot as they drift across their path in the atmosphere. While laying there I sometimes wonder where the stars start and stop. It's a question a person can ask many times and get a different answer each time. The Midwest can be a stargazers paradise.
There is a peace that I have found living in the Midwest that I have not found when I have traveled to other places. The people are friendly, respectful, and always willing to help a neighbor in need. We even know our neighbors, now that's a concept that is not heard of in the year 2008, is it? I don't see myself and my family moving from this heartland of opportunity that I have grown to love. I will continue to enjoy all the new life and dreams that await me in the great Midwest!
