Mary Higgins Clark is not only one of America's best suspense writers she is a lovely person. I had the honor of meeting her at the Christopher's Award Ceremony on April 10, 2008. She is a warm human being, very personable and a true example of someone having her world turned upside down, and then using writing as a healing tool.
In her situation it became a way of supporting her family at a time when women were not in the workplace as they are today.
She lost her husband at a young age and she was left with young children to care for and care for them she did.
She didn't give up and kept trying over and over again to succeed and succeed she did. We should all be as lucky as she was and continues to be.
I have read all of her books and have found that they grab my attention from the first chapter and keep it until I arrive at the last page.
Mary Higgins Clark has written over thirty-three books, three were short stories, one was a memoir, as well as over twenty-five mysteries. If you haven't read any of her books you can start with "Where are the Children" one of her first novels, or "A Stranger is Watching" Another great book that is guaranteed to hold your interest is "Two Little Girls in Blue" which is about twins, one is kidnapped, everyone thinks they she is dead, but they are able to communicate as twins do and all will hold their breath to see if they find her before it is too late.
Actually, I have found that each one of her books not only grabs our interest, but they will also have us biting our nails, while making sure the door is locked as we find ourselves jumping with each new sound or squeak we hear while reading her books.
Believe me when I say that most of us will not forget what the stories she writes are about for a long time and most will recommend them to other people we know.
I have personally read every one of her books in record time and can say that the only reason I couldn't wait to finish reading each book was to see if I guessed who the bad apple was, not because I didn't know why I was reading her books to begin with.
Mary Higgins Clark also writes books with one of her children, Carol Higgins Clark and for those of you who don't like reading books with murders in them, these books are entertaining, suspenseful and they also have happy endings with less violence in them. "Deck the Halls" and "The Christmas Thief" are two of their books.
Mary Higgins Clark's books also have a bit of religion in them, but for those of us who believe in God that's refreshing.
Again, it was wonderful to meet her in person and there was nothing snobbish about her. A real Lady who certainly did not make anyone who wanted to have a word with her feel ill at ease.
