Ridding the House of Roaches for $1.50/yr
Warning: do not use if you have cats
This is toxic to some cats
There is a very efficient and simple way to rid your house of roaches at a cost of about $1.50/yr. It has a toxicity range equal to that of table salt to people (If you consume too much table salt, you will get sick or even die at extreme concentrations) and most pets, though a percentage of domestic cats react badly to it - including when they eat the dead roaches. Part of the method's success is that it is in the body of the roach in amounts that are toxic to other roaches.
It is slow enough acting that it has time to kill any eggs the roach is carrying, too.
You will notice less and less roaches (except dead ones) over a period of about two weeks, then none. I put it out twice a year in dish cabinets, closets, behind the stove and fridge or anywhere else roaches are likely to appear. As noted, you can eat quite a lot of the stuff without more than a slightly upset stomach, though the taste is rather unpleasant to me.
The formula is: again, DO NOT use if you have cats.
1 Tbspn all-purpose flour
1 Tbspn sugar
1 Tbspn boric acid powder
the white of 1 egg
Preparation:
Thoroughly mix the ingredients until it is a thick paste, spread 1/4" - 1/8" thick on foil or in a buttered glass dish and bake at the LOWEST temperature your oven has, usually around 200*F, until it is rubbery. Cut into " squares and put the squares in likely places where pets can't reach them directly. (Pets, while not greatly harmed - except cats - will eat the squares before the roaches get them.)
You will see less and less roaches over a short period of time, then none. An added free bonus is that it also kills any ants that eat it, including the queen. It is slow enough acting that they carry it to the nest to feed the larvae and queen.
