Ok, so you have decided to go to Walt Disney World for your family vacation, now you need to decide how you are going to get there. For most people the answer will be to fly to Orlando, however, this is not always the most inexpensive way to get to Disney World. Well there is another way to fly to Florida that may help you save money. I say may help you because, with the goofy system that the airlines use to set ticket prices this tip does not always work.

In an attempt to save money on the airfare to Florida you can try flying into the Tampa airport. Tampa is only a 75 mile drive from Orlando, and usually only takes a little over an hour to drive. As I stated previously, this is not always a money saving option, but depending on season it can be much cheaper to fly to Tampa than to fly to Orlando. The first time I did this the cheapest tickets I could find to Orlando was $550.00 per person round trip. The roundtrip tickets I bought to Tampa were $260 per person.

Now getting from Tampa to Walt Disney World will require a rental car and a little over an hour of driving. If you were planning on having a rental car for your entire trip this will not be an issue. However, if you were planning on staying on Disney property and not getting a rental car this could offset the savings of flying to Tampa. Fortunately, you do not have to rent the car for the entire week. If you are staying on Disney property all you need to do is reserve a one day, one way rental from Alamo rental car for the day you arrive and for the day that you leave.

Alamo rental car has a location at the Car Care center at the exit of the Magic Kingdom parking lot. For people staying on Walt Disney World property this makes dropping of and picking up a rental car really convenient. After you check into your resort all you have to do is drive over to the car care center and drop it off. An Alamo shuttle will take you back to your resort where you will be able to enjoy the benefits of Disney transportation for the rest of your stay. To pick up the rental car for your trip back to the Tampa airport is all you have to do is call Alamo the day before your reservation to schedule an Alamo shuttle to pick you up.
