Write your When Did I Lose Me?

I often wondered when he became so mean
He loved me once didn't he?
I wondered when he began to use his words as a knife
He did love me once, didn't he?

As I cried at his spiteful soliloquy and pondered death
I looked into the eyes of my child and I saw fear
As my heart crumbled at the pounding of his condemning words
I looked into the eyes of beauty
A tear trickled down her cheek, my cheek

My back began to bend as if his tongue was the lash of a whip
I looked into the eyes of her future and I was scared
This isn't how it should be
As I try to protect my daughters' future, I see myself in disgust
In loathing I ask when did I lose me?

I often wondered when he became so mean
He loved me once didn't he?
I wondered when he became so hateful
He did love me once, didn't he?

My soul melts away to protect itself from the pain
If I am a nobody, I can't get hurt
As I feel my grasp on reality fade
I see my daughter's face and I take hold of hope,
So I fight not to lose anymore of me so she won't EVER say
Mommy, when did I lose me?
