PINKY'S WISH COMES TRUE
The little girl's name was Pinky. Actually, her real name was Penelope Johnson, but her parents had nicknamed her Pinky when she was very young.
Pinky was a very pretty six-year old. She had long curly, blond pigtails and big blue eyes. She was also a very happy little girl. She had everything that a little girl could possibly want. She had a mother and a father who loved her very much and kept her safe. She had a pretty white bedroom filled with all kinds of toys, dolls, and pretty clothes to wear. She had a dog named Hobo and a kitten named Sassy.
Yes, Pinky had everything. Well, almost everything. There was one thing that Pinky wished for every year when her birthday came around, but so far, her wish had not come true. More than anything in the world, Pinky wished for a brother or sister.
Pinky's birthday was coming up soon. She would be seven years old in just three more weeks. Of course, she had told her parents-again-what she wanted more than anything in the world. Her parents had smiled at her and tried to explain that they were not able to have more children, but that they loved her very much and were thankful that they had her as their daughter. Pinky didn't really understand all their explanations, so she just kept on wishing her favorite wish.
At school, Pinky had lots of friends. One day, a new girl showed up and sat in the empty seat in front of Pinky. Pinky smiled and said hello, but the new girl just lowered her eyes and didn't say anything. She was very shy and did not have any friends.
When it came time to go outside and play, Pinky and her friends gathered at the swings and took turns pushing each other high into the sky. While Pinky and her friends laughed and played, she noticed that the new girl sat all by herself beneath a shade tree. Pinky thought she looked so sad and lonely, so she walked over to where the girl sat.
"Can't you talk?" Pinky asked.
There was no answer from the new girl.
"What's your name, anyway?" Pinky tried again to get the girl to talk.
There was still no answer.
Pinky didn't know what else to say, so she turned slowly around and walked back to her friends.
When Pinky got home from school that afternoon, she told her mother about the new girl and how she had tried to make friends with her. Pinky's mom told her that the new girl was probably just shy and that Pinky should try again the next day.
At recess the next day, Pinky went up to the new girl again and said, "Hi, my name's Pinky. What's
