- "Do you believe in Astrology?"
- "I do not know...", answered I to myself as I sat in the dark meditating.
I do find it amusing at times, especially when I feel good... I like to read my horoscope when my mood is up... it always give me a big laugh to read how far from the truth predictions can be. If it happens that one day they are right, I put it on the account of a lucky guess.
- "How many astrological signs are there?"
- "Twelve, or so..."
- "How many people are there on the planet?"
- "..."
- "Yeah, I do not know either... let's say, many!"
If one takes a group of a hundred people with the same astrological sign, what are the odds of one prediction applying to all of them just because they are of the same sign? There is no way it can be so! Evidently, everything lies in the interpretation of the prediction... So, why would one interpretation be truer than another? At that rate, anyone can predict anything as long as he/she remains vague enough...
Astrology is related to the stars and each new born would have a predisposition of character and destiny, because of the position of the stars as he/she came to life. I believe that this statement holds some truth as we are all part of the Universe; as such, the connection and interaction between us and everything else is deep and subtle... and sometimes beyond our comprehension...
However, the greatest power that defines us is the others. The influence exercised on us since childhood... How we are raised... How we learn (or not) to interact with others... The values that are set for us, which we eventually adjust as we grow... The way we experience (or not) the world from the beginning... All this should be what defines our character and destiny... The stars would just be spiritual beacons to boost our confidence... provided we believe in their influence at all.
I am a Scorpio and so far, everything I read about Scorpios, how they are and who they are... it is just not true for me... so what then? What is the use of such categories? How come so many only swear by what horoscopes say? One very simple thing, yet very complex: Human Nature...
The interpretation of what the stars tell us remains a human thing. Humans interact, influence each other and this is a tiny part of the influences we get and impose on one another. Astrology is the name of one of these influences (I guess it is nice to be able to put a name on something, makes it easier to talk about it... still a human act to give a name to things, even abstract ones).
