Downloadable game review: Runes of Avalon 2

I just finished an hour of fast paced game play on a free trial of Runes of Avalon 2 by Anawiki games on http://www.hairyballs.com/downloadable_games_for_rev iew. As soon as I finish here, letting you know what an awesome game it is, I am going back to that website and purchasing the full version. I loved the first Runes of Avalon and the second one is even better.

Runes of Avalon 2 is a puzzle style game with three game modes to choose from. In the quick game selection there is a time attack to enhance your speed and an endless mode for a relaxed laid-back experience. Then there is the quest selection. This mode follows the quest of Evelyne to destroy the wicked Morganna and free the once glorious Avalon from the clutches of her evil spells. To do this, Evelyne must learn the rune spells of Merlin. The game play is based on combining runes to create magic, defeat Morganna, and cleanse Avalon of the dark magic.

As you progress through the game you encounter opportunities to gain new magic spells and find new areas of Avalon to rescue. These mini games add to the spell that Runes of Avalon 2 can put on the game player. One more spell to unlock, one more land to discover. It is entertaining and addictive game play for all ages.

The graphics have been improved with more color, enhanced backgrounds and flashier spells. The characters, though, remain unchanged as do the runes themselves. It is a continuation of an original, so I guess they can account for the desire for some similarity. There are so many new enhancements to the game that a bit of familiarity truly adds to the legacy that Runes of Avalon is becoming.

The background music is powerful adding to the intensity of overall play. This is definitely an addictive game. The way Runes of Avalon and Runes of Avalon 2 were created it will be a playable game even if you make it through all the levels. Each time through could very well be a new adventure.

If you have never played the original, it might be a good place to start. Runes of Avalon 2 is more challenging and it definitely helps to have the knowledge of the strategies of the original when you start. The play is similar, the tactics are advanced, the boards are more demanding. On a scale of 1 to 5, Runes of Avalon 2 rates a 5 for fun, stimulating, addictive, and all around entertaining game play.
