For most of us, Disney has been an intricate part of our childhood. We grew up with the magic of Disney shows, movies, heroes, princesses, and even villains. Some of those villains scared the living daylights out of us, and may have even been the stuff of nightmares.
As hard as it was to narrow the list down, my top ten Disney villains are as follows:
1) Maleficent (voiced by Eleanor Audley, in "Sleeping Beauty"). She is the only villain from my childhood memories that I couldn't be alone while watching (well, at least for that wickedly sinister mountain scene). Her voice gave me chills, and her cruelty was so detailed on her face.
2) Cruella De Vil (voiced by Betty Lou Gerson in "One Hundred and One Dalmations"). Motivated by pure greed, she was merciless, heartless, and evil.
3) Queen/Witch in "Snow White" (voiced by Lucille La Verne). Vain enough to ask for the heart of an innocent girl? If that isn't evil, I don't know what is.
4) Shan-Yu (voiced by Miguel Ferrer in "Mulan"). Completely without mercy, and Miguel's low, raspy voice, just seals the deal.
5) Frollo (voiced by Tony Jay in "The Hunchback of Notre Dame"). Creepy and utterly corrupted by power, this was the kind of character you love to hate.
6)Buddy/Syndrome (voiced by Jason Lee in "The Incredibles"). He is most memorable for being funny, at least in my mind.
7) Governor Ratcliffe (voiced by David Ogden Stiers in "Pocahontas"). He was just so greedy, so selfish. How great was it to see him overturned by his own men!
8) Lady Tremaine (voiced by Eleanor Audley in "Cinderella"). What kind of stepmother treats a child so cruelly? The only other time Eleanor Audley lended her amazingly wicked voice to an animated Disney villain. And, just like Maleficent, Lady Tremaine was all the more chilling due to that fascinating voice.
9)Scar (voiced by Jeremy Irons in "The Lion King"). Jeremy Irons has an amazing, one of a kind, raspy tone to his voice, which really sold this character, for me. Scar was selfish, power hungry enough to kill his own brother and attempt to kill his own nephew, and manipulative to boot!
10) Ursula (voice by Pat Carroll in "The Little Mermaid"). Her eyes burned with pure evil, even as she sang, deceptively, about how she was changed for the better.
