Bible as the bestselling book for many years perhaps is also the most read book in the world. After many years of reading and doing research in this God inspired book the Bible, undoubtedly I am convinced that Bible is the perfect book from God.
Roman 10:17 is one of my favorite verses in the Bible. This verse states "So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ." This verse tells me the fundamental of Christian faith. It not only tells me about the source of Christian faith, it also tells me how to obtain this faith. As I read it over and over again, one day I discovered that this verse is perfectly and wonderfully phrased; Christianity is for both the literate and the illiterate! Can you see what I have discovered?
Christian faith comes from knowing the teachings of Jesus Christ in the Bible, and not any other way. I cannot obtain my faith in Christ by reading history book or biology book but by hearing the words of Christ recorded in the Bible. If I wish to increase my Christian faith I need to constantly and increasingly know more about Christ's teachings. Can I make an excuse that since I am illiterate I cannot be a Christian, so God is unfair and not just? Look at the verse Roman 10:17 carefully, it says: faith comes by hearing. What if it is written as: "faith comes from reading, and reading the word of Christ."? Then perhaps the illiterate will have no chance to be saved because they cannot read. However this will not happen because they can hear the word of Christ being preached to them. Subsequently they "the illiterate" must be proactive to increase their faith continually by hearing the word of Christ.
Conversely, those literate cannot argue that Christianity is not for them because Roman 17:10 states that faith come by hearing and not reading. Active reading will produce sound and hence hearing is also inclusive of reading.
From this verse I am very certain that Christianity is an active and living religion as the faith of a Christian depends on his continuous effort to know the teachings of Jesus Christ. That reminds me of the sayings of Jesus in Matthew 7:21 "not everyone who says to me Lord, Lord shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my father in Heaven".
In short, I wish you to continue to read your Bible to increase your faith and be a living child of God.
