Should Paris Hilton get one million dollars to tell her jailhouse story on NBC?

No

by Amy Huang

It's not just about Paris Hilton. I don't believe anyone should be making a million dollars on a personal issue that has a negative message for the society.

Paris Hilton have a very high media profile. The tabloids can't seem to get enough of her. She is often pictured shopping, walking her dog, being semi-naked at a party, snugging up to another mystery boy and doing drugs. Now, she wants to sell her jail story to NBC for a million dollar to add to her list of exposure portfolio.

Paris was sentenced for 45 days of jail detention for driving with a suspended license, a sentence which her sister Nicky described as "absurd", as reported by People magazine. However, someone must have changed their minds about putting this young heiress into jail, as Paris walked free after serving only 23 of the original sentence.

And now, she wants to tell the world how bad it was to put her in jail. Big deal.

Paris Hilton is not new at this. She is very good at using her personal life to get ahead in fame. For a person who started becoming a celebrity by a distributed sex tap, Paris certainly have never stopped to amuse us with her wild actions. Infamously known for her 'Simple Life' as a rich heiress to a hotel giant, as well as her extravagant spending and purchases, having to spend time in jail seemed to kick up a media storm.

Perhaps it's the humor in such a high class "lady" having to spend time in jail, a whole 23 days would have been hell for her. However, had she not been such a high profile figure in the media, no one would have cared.

What about all the other people that goes to jail? Some spending as little as three days for minor offenses - do they get their story told? Will they also get paid to tell their horrific nights in the cold stone floors of the jail cell? No. Because they are not Paris Hilton.

And it's not like she needs the money. Had she been some poor woman who may have been wrongfully accused, and desperately need the money for a lawyer to turn her case, it would have made sense that they sold their story. For Paris, it's just another attention seeking media play. Even better - she is getting paid for it.
