Downloadable game reviews: Zombie Shooter

Zombie Shooter is an entertaining third person shooter. The core of the game play is suggested in the name of the game. Your character (male or female) starts outside of a compound full of people afflicted with a bad case of undead flu. He or she proceeds to blast their way through hordes of undead civilians, dogs, rats, and soldiers. The game's simple premise is part of what makes it fun.

Game play/Controls: Controlling you character is as simple as using the W, A, S, and D keys to move around the area on screen. To shoot, use the mouse to move the crosshair over the nasty zombies and click to you heart's content. There is something insanely fun about standing five feet from a doorway and opening up with a grenade launcher, mini-gun, or a shotgun as a horde of zombies tries to stream through.

Graphics: The graphics in Zombie Shooter are a throw back to the days of the Sega Genesis. Most computers should not have any trouble with running this game. While the graphics might seem outdated as compared to popular console games, the effects for the guns and explosions are more than adequate and the level of gore is suitable for any zombie game. Nothing is more satisfying than walking through the remains of a literal horde of zombies.

Sound: Zombie Shooter belongs to a class of games where the soundtrack is not terribly important. Despite this, the game has appropriate music to accompany the slaughter of the damned. Also, the sound effects for the weapons are pleasing every time you hear them.

Creativity/Innovation: There was not anything incredibly innovative about Zombie Shooters. The control scheme it uses is similar to many other games. The game stays true to many popular gaming conventions and there is no real story.

While Zombie Shooter may not be very original, the appeal is in how addictive it can be. I did not really care about the game's shortcomings. No matter how you slice it, shooting zombies is just plain fun. The game is fun and worthy of a play through. The $20 price might be a little high considering all of the zombie games available. Check out the trial version. It might just hook you.

Rating 3/5.
